God wants you rich. That is a pretty strong statement that may shock you! You might think, Isn’t that greedy? No! The idea that God wants you to be wealthy is not a greedy statement at all. In fact, it is more greedy to be satisfied with not enough or barely enough to get by. Why is that? Keep reading and discover what the Bible says about why God wants you rich.
Godly Desires
Ask yourself this question: “What would I do if I won the lottery?” (Please don’t go out and buy lottery tickets! This is purely for illustration purposes.)
Certainly, many believers might begin with something like, “Well, I’d buy a new car, and a house/land with cash so that we’d never have to worry about rent or a place to live (but don’t forget those property taxes!). Oh, and I’d buy my parents a brand new house, too. I’d set aside money for my kid’s college funds!” Of course, there would be some desire to take care of our families in some way.
What next? Sure, some might come up with other ways to consume it upon their own fleshly desires. However, many believers would desire things like this, “Well, man… I’d love to build and fund an orphanage. It would be amazing if I could pay for students to attend Bible college, or start a new church. What if I provided for a home for abused women and their children, or build affordable housing for the homeless? I would love to fund a private hospital that would provide free medical care for the poor and uninsured…” That kind of list could go on forever!
The Heart of God
Those desires come straight from the heart of God! We inherited that heart from Him, being made in His likeness. That is why we intuitively understand that poverty is not good and that wealth is a blessing. This is God’s desire for each and every one of us! He wants us to prosper, not stay stuck in the bondage of poverty!
And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.
Do you see in just this one verse (there are many) how God desires for us to prosper? He wants us to have enough financially that we can give to every good work! That is a lot of grace, sufficiency, and abundance!
Let them shout for joy and be glad, Who favor my righteous cause; And let them say continually, “Let the Lord be magnified, Who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant.”
God has pleasure in your prosperity! And when you prosper, you magnify the Lord. The world sees His power, His grace, and His favor in you as you increase!
A Witness for God
Abraham was a friend of God (Isaiah 41:8). And the Word says, “Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold” (Genesis 13:2). Look at how Abraham’s son, Isaac, also prospered:
12 Then Issac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the Lord blessed him. 13 The man began to prosper, and continued prospering until he became very prosperous; 14 for he had possessions of flocks and possessions of herds and a great number of servants. So the Philistines envied him… 16 And Abimelech said to Isaac, “Go away from us, for you are much mightier than we.”
Abraham and Isaac were B.L.E.S.S.E.D. In fact, Isaac was so blessed that his household was perceived by the Philistines as mightier than their own people! Look at what Abimelech said to Isaac later on in this chapter:
28 But they said, “We have certainly seen that the Lord is with you. So we said, ‘Let there now be an oath between us… 29 that you will do us no harm…You are now the blessed of the Lord.'”
Why did the Philistines say that they could see that the Lord was with Isaac? It was because they saw the incredible wealth that Isaac had been given, and the blessing that was upon his household!
In the same way, just as the Lord took pleasure in Isaac’s prosperity, He takes pleasure in our prosperity as well. God’s desire is for His children to stand out from the world with power and authority in the name of Jesus, and in financial prosperity as well. The world should look upon the children of God with envy! Being a Blessing to Others
Consider the parable of the Good Samaritan:
30 Then Jesus answered and said: “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side. 33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’
How many of us could do what the Good Samaritan did? Not just have the compassionate heart to help, but the financial means to put a man up in a hotel, then open up a tab for him and say, “Whatever you spend on caring for this man, I will repay you when I return.” This man gave the innkeeper a blank check! There is absolutely no way the Good Samaritan could have helped this man to this extent if he had not had the financial resources to do so.
God wants you to have your own needs met, and an abundant overflow so that you can give to every good work! This is why understanding that God wants you rich is far from greedy. Having this abundance is the only way you will have the freedom to give into every ministry and life to which the Holy Spirit leads you.
God Loves You
We love to bless our children, don’t we? We want to make sure they have nice clothes to wear, nutritious food to eat, and enriching toys for them to play with. Sometimes we take them out for a treat, or bring home a surprise gift, just to see them smile. It brings us joy to see our children grow, increase and succeed, doesn’t it? God takes even more pleasure in blessing His children than we do!
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
And this verse from Psalms really bears repeating:
Let them shout for joy and be glad, Who favor my righteous cause; And let them say continually, “Let the Lord be magnified, Who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant.”
If God took pleasure in the prosperity of His servants, He certainly takes pleasure in the prosperity of His children!
Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!
God Wants You Rich
God wants you rich! Your desire for prosperity is an extension of His heart inside of you. After all, in heaven, God used pure gold, huge pearls, and precious stones as construction materials! And Jesus taught us to pray, “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). When you are prosperous, with all sufficiency in all things and an abundance for every good work, you are an advertisement of God’s goodness!
It is the goodness of God that leads people to repentance, not the stinginess of God. He is not withholding from you! He wants you to be able to give to those in need and still have enough for your own family. God loves you so much. You are His precious child and He wants you to receive the blessing that He is ready to pour into your life when you receive it by faith!
